Social Media Marketing has become a staple to an effective online marketing plan. Sometimes, social marketing can seem quite overwhelming, especially if you are new to the idea of using it as a form of advertising. It changes so fast, there is so much going on, and there are so many ways though maximize the effectiveness of each campaign. This leads people to get stuck in the perpetual cycle of always wondering whether or not they are doing the right thing or if they are missing out on something.
Here are 5 tips to help you make social media marketing management less overwhelming and inevitably more effective!
1. Plan and Schedule your Content Posts
Take the time at the start of every month to build out your editorial calendar. Decide in advance what content you will be posting, how often, to what social accounts, and how you are planning to share. It is very important to have a decent schedule to keep track of your social marketing activities. There are many online tools available (ex. hootsuite) designed especially to help you plan and schedule out your social media marketing campaigns.
2. Simplify Your Approach
Start small. If social content is causing you headaches you may just be looking for too much content too fast. Take quality content over quantity, having one engaging post per week on your social account will go alot further then posting a mountain of 'uninteresting' content. Think of yourself as the consumer of the content, what makes you want to read an article or post? How long do those posts hold your attention? What makes you glance over a post? Short and to the point is 99% of the time the most effective in social media.
3. Monitor Analytics
Use your Statistics!! You really need to know your insights and website analytics to maximize your marketing effectiveness. It is very important to see what posts are being engaged with and what is driving web traffic to your site. When you know what is working you can post effective content and remove those which are not beneficial. Pay extra attention to your traffic sources and web referrals. When you know what is driving the most traffic to your site you can discover which of your social marketing campaigns is most effective and spend more of your time nurturing that specific marketing channel.
4. Advocates
Take some of the responsibility off of yourself. Use advocates of social media either within your organization or use a third party company to help you develop and execute effective social media campaigns. Online marketing can be a huge time suck and even more so if you are not experienced in using these types of channels. Look to use advocates when possible to help distribute the workload and leave your schedule clear for the important aspects of your business that demand your attention.
5. Focus
Refine your focus to a time specific allocation (one week or one month). Spend the majority of your time during that specific time allocation to really work hard on establishing one of your social media channels to effectively engage with your potential clients. Do not neglect your other channels, make sure to keep nurturing them, but spend the majority of your time on the social media channel selected to help it grow into what it should be. At the end of the specific time allocation turn your attention to social media network number two.
I hope these tips help to make social media marketing much more manageable for you and your business!
