As the owner of CNM I felt it essential to start out our company blogs with something close to my heart. Growing up in a household where giving back to the community was a given, I had certain morals and expectations of social responsibility ingrained into my very being. This characteristic has been built directly into the essence of the CNM brand. My first job out of college was a non-paid position (in which living expenses were covered) at one of the largest non-profit organizations in Los Angeles, California, where I worked as a marketing and media coordinator for over two years. Along with all the experience serving communities of the greater Los Angeles area, it was also in this position where I was introduced to the many grant opportunities for digital marketing services. Still, I remain very involved in work with non-profit organizations in which I help acquire, run, and optimize grant options. On a personal level, I volunteer my time with two non-profits, hold the marketing and sponsorship chair on the Better Business Bureau Foundation board, and support a multitude of organizations monetarily on-going.

The Google Grants Program

Although there are many fantastic grant options, in this article. I want to focus in more on the offerings from Google. Most people are shocked when we introduce them to the options Google has laid out on the table. They have some fantastic grants to non-profits who qualify!

$120,000 annually in free Google Ads credit

The best grant option from Google allows you to take advantage of up to $10,000/month of the potent PPC platform of the Google Search Network. Specific criteria are required to qualify for this program, and it can be a bit of an adventure to get through the approval process, but once you are set up, the results can be life-changing. In the past, we have seen massive increases in donations, volunteer sign-ups, and other conversions through the implementation of this program. CNM can assist you through the entire process from acquisition to on-going management and optimization. Special rates are available for all non-profits our team believes are making a positive difference in the world today.

Let’s look at the program in a little more detail. As mentioned, this portion of Google’s offering supports non-profit organizations by giving them $10,000 a month in Google Ads PPC credits. It is crucial to keep in mind that this is not ‘free rein’. There are some limitations to this offer which include:

  • Daily budget is $329.00

  • Maximum CPC is $2.00

  • Individual campaigns are based on keyword groups and must refer to only one URL address

  • Only text ads are available

  • Ads are shown in Google Search Results.

With the ever-shifting world of digital marketing, so too are the requirements with the grant. Things are loosing up, and there has been discussion about expanding the options for ad credit use also to include display and video marketing options.

Despite the limitations, Google and its program open new doors for non-profit organizations. Additionally, we must keep in mind that this program is absolutely free. They allow us as non-profits to compete for space in search results with their paying customers just based on the fact they want to support those who support others. So them limiting our ability does make sense.

You have to remember that to effectively utilize this tool, you will have to choose and use keywords, phrases, and ad content in a way that precisely reflects the mission and vision of your organization.

Free Use of G-Suite

G suite is a fantastic offering through Google, which focuses on team management, cloud computing, and productivity. It offers a wide array of software tools and products developed by Google Cloud, which can all be accessed in one easy to use place. G Suite includes Gmail, Hangouts, Calendar, Drive for storage, Currents for communication, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Forms, and Sites, which all are fantastic tools for productivity and collaboration. Depending on the plan you have, you can also access an admin panel and vault for user management. Google is innovative, and they often beta test and include new tools into their G Suite offering. One of the newer tools is a very interesting digital whiteboard/jamboard that can be used for collaboration and brainstorming sessions.

With your Google non-profit grant, you get access to the G Suite premium level that includes all the fantastic enterprise features. These features include use of all tools mentioned above as well as things such as custom email addresses (@yourcompany.com), unlimited cloud storage, and many other additional administrative tools and advanced settings. Another major benefit is the 24/7 phone and email support, which, if you have ever tried to contact Google, is a very big deal.

The benefits of this offering grow exponentially with the size of the organization. The bigger the organization, the more useful the tool.

YouTube for Non-Profit Organizations

The third great benefit available to non-profit organizations through the Google Ad Grant is a special version of YouTube for non-profit organizations. This special YouTube edition contains some unique features that are not available to regular content creators. Google is well aware that more and more people want to interact with brands and organizations in new ways. Video is one of these preferred modes of communication. Unfortunately, for non-profits outside of the United States, this offering is not available although that is expected to change shortly.
